Easy Duck Counting Math Activity for Preschool

My preschoolers love animals! They especially love farm animals, and even more specifically, they LOVE DUCKS! This preschool counting activity is a great way to get your preschoolers (or any young children!) excited about math and ready to work on their counting skills.

One of the most challenging parts of counting activities for preschoolers is moving from the skill of rote counting (verbally counting the numbers) to a concrete understanding of numbers.

This hands counting activity brings the skill of counting 1 to 10 to life for preschoolers. After all, what preschooler doesn’t love going to the park and watching the ducks swim in the pond!

This is the perfect activity for developing number sense! Your students will be developing their counting skills while gaining an understanding of what the number actually looks like! • Help develop your preschoolers math vocabulary! Add one more duck! Take one duck away! How many ducks?
• Print the slides out and have your preschooler trace the numbers!
• Introduce addition and subtraction! How many ducks would be left if one of the ducks swam away? How many ducks would there be all together if one more jumped in?
• Extend the learning into your home! Can you find five stuffed animals? Can you bring me three books? Can you count seven crayons?

This activity can also double as a literacy activity for preschoolers! The predictable text at the top of each slide is an easy way for your preschooler to read along with you!

How to use the Google Slides Easy Duck Counting Math Activity

To use this Google Slides preschool counting activity you are going to first click on the link sent to your email address. After choosing the Google Slides version of the activity (it comes in a Seesaw version too!) a pop up will appear prompting you to make a copy.

It is important that you make a copy of the activity so that you can share it with your students and they will be able to move the ducks!

Once the activity is open make sure it is in edit mode. This will allow you to move the ducks into the pond. You will need to make copies of the activity for each of your students so that they are able to do the same!

Finally, share the activity with your students and they will have an interactive activity full of counting fun!

Once your preschoolers open the activity they will be ready to practice counting 1 to 10. All they need to do is click on the slide for the number they want to practice counting. Then they simply click and drag the number of ducks they need into the pond!
