What Is Inferencing?

Inferencing can be a hard concept for little minds to grasp!  These easy preschool riddles are the perfect place to start.

An inference is a conclusion we come to after gathering clues and information.

Some of the information may already be previous knowledge, while other information is gathered from a text we are reading or a picture we are looking at.

Why Should I Teach Inferencing?

Inferencing is a vital skill for reading comprehension!

As students get older and texts get more complex, authors tend to provide less information directly and leave more up to the imagination of the reader. This is where the skill of inferencing comes in!

Some people also refer to inferencing as “reading between the lines”!

Inferencing is a multi disciplinary skill!  Inferences are made during science lessons all the time!
