Apple Life Cycle Kindergarten Science Digital Activity
Apples are a wonderful theme any time of the year! They fit into a fall, back-to-school theme, or any time of year you have carved out to learn about life cycles. The Apple Life Cycle Kindergarten Science Digital Activity is an easy, no-prep way for your students to practice the life cycle of an apple tree.

Learning About An Apple Tree’s Life Cycle:
SCIENCE FOR KINDERGARTEN
SCIENCE LESSONS FOR KINDERGARTEN AND PRESCHOOL ARE A GREAT WAY TO SPARK CURIOUSITY AND EXPLORATION OF SO MANY THINGS IN OUR WORLD.
Learning about life cycles helps young learners understand plants, animals, and themselves. It’s a great opportunity to compare and contrast the different types of life cycles all around us.
I like to add life cycle printables and activities to my lesson plans all year long by incorporating them into any and every theme we might encounter.
The life cycle stages included in this digital life cycle activity include: seed, sprout, tree, flower, and fruit.
Your students are going to love this apple-themed science activity that can end with some delicious apple slices if you’re in the mood!
During the apple life cycle activity, I like to incorporate questions that could apply to a number of life sciences:
- What do plants need to survive?
- What are the different parts of a plant?
- Where do apple seeds grow best?
- What happens to trees in the winter?

What Can Kindergarteners Learn About Apple Life Cycles?
USING A DIAGRAM LIFE CYCLE OF AN APPLE TREE
ONCE CHILDREN ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE STAGES OF HOW APPLES COME TO BE, YOU CAN RELATE IT TO EARTH SCIENCE AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE!
- Do other fruits start as a seed?
- Which fruits also grow on trees?
- What is your favorite fruit?
- What does the earth provide for an apple tree?
- Compare/contrast the life of an apple with the life of a butterfly/bee/ladybug.

Why Is It Important For Kids To Study Tree Life Cycles?
Besides the fact that kids love learning about the world around them, delving into an apple unit helps them understand how life exists.

Easy Ways to Extend the Activity
Play a Game
When your class is super familiar with the life cycle of an apple tree, you can display the digital slides and give students an opportunity to come up to the board to click and drag the stages into the correct spot.
Practice Sight Words
The simple “I see a…” sentences on each slide are an excellent opportunity to practice reading! Ask students to read each slide out loud as they complete the life cycle activity.
Make it Hands-on
Fill your sensory bin with pictures or objects of each stage in the life cycle and ask children to find them and put them in order. Or, print the slides and use playdough to make each life cycle stage.
Unique Writing Experiences
Practice writing the apple themed words on a whiteboard, chalk board, or on construction paper with markers.
Vocabulary Word Race
Make flash cards with the words from the apple tree life cycle. Carry them in your bag and practice reading them when you have spare time or are out running errands. Make it a game and see how many your child can read in a minute. Can they beat their record next time?
